Carbon Cycle Science Side event at the COP-19 Climate Change Talks in Warsaw!

The US Carbon Cycle Science Program is organizing a joint U.S. Center side event with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-19) to the United Nation's Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), being held from November 11-22, 2013, at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland. The U.S. Center convenes U.S. agencies, academic institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector companies to inform COP attendees about key climate initiatives and scientific research taking place in the United States.

Carbon Cycle Science side event Description

The US Carbon Cycle Science Program (CCSP) coordinates U.S. research on the global carbon cycle for credible predictions and improved scientific foundation for carbon management decisions and climate change. The Program has enabled significant progress in carbon cycle science via the North American Carbon Program (NACP), the Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry Program (OCB) and other international partnerships. The NACP initiative between Canada, the US and Mexico, CarboNA, works toward greater cohesion across North America in carbon and greenhouse gas based mitigation strategies, and coordinates research, monitoring, reporting, and decision support in areas of common interest. The OCB parallels these efforts for ocean carbon dynamics, contributes to international research studies, and works with the terrestrial community on synthesis activities on carbon in coastal areas. CCSP also partners with the International Soil Carbon Network (ISCN) on research to curtail emissions.

This COP-19 side event will bring together prominent US Government level Carbon Cycle Scientists and Program Managers to inform COP-19 participants about the most recent developments in the above major internationally coordinated carbon cycle science research activities involving the United States.

Event date: Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 - 6-7 pm Warsaw time (12-1 pm EST)
