Public (joint NACP + OCB) Webinar: Reviewing or Commenting on SOCCR-2

Webinar day/time: Tuesday, December 19 from 2-3 pm (eastern)

Webinar description: This webinar will include a brief overview followed by a Q&A session on the 2nd State of the Carbon Cycle Report (SOCCR-2) background, development process, and public comments submission. This is a critical opportunity for the carbon cycle research community to inform the policy process!

SOCCR-2 is a technical, scientific assessment focused on North American land and adjacent oceans’ carbon cycle processes, stocks, fluxes, and interactions with global-scale carbon budgets and climate change impacts in managed and unmanaged systems as addressed in and related to the U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Plan (2011), the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) 2012-2021 Strategic Plan and the Global Change Research Act or GCRA (1990). This special report provides an update to the carbon cycle science presented in the Third National Climate Assessment (NCA3) released in 2014 and the 1st State of the Carbon Cycle Report (SOCCR-1) released in 2007. The draft findings in SOCCR-2 are based on a large U.S. and international body of scientific, peer-reviewed research, as well as a number of other publicly available sources, including well-established and carefully evaluated observational and modeling datasets. The final SOCCR-2 report is expected to be released mid-2018. SOCCR-2 informs NCA4 which is expected in Dec 2018. The SOCCR-2 Public Comment Period runs through 12 January 2018.
